More Safety Tips for Independence Day

In addition to firework safety, there are other special safety concerns during the Fourth of July holiday. Americans spend the holiday grilling, going to the beach and doing other outdoor activities – all of which carry with them their own safety concerns. When it comes to visiting your local beach, one of the most important things to remember is to only swim at a lifeguarded beach and within the designated swimming area. You should also be aware of any possible dangerous weather conditions that may make the beach an unsafe location to gather. If you are going to be swimming while at the beach, abstain from alcohol and make sure to swim with a buddy. You should also keep a close eye on children while at the beach. If young children are planning on swimming in the ocean, dress them in a life jacket. And everyone swimming at the beach needs to be aware of rip currents. If you get caught in a rip current, remember to swim parallel to the shore until you are out of the current. Then turn and swim toward the shore. If you will be grilling on the Fourth of July, make sure the grill is always under supervision. It is also very important to only grill outdoors, and to make sure that everyone stays away from the hot grill. When cooking, use long-handled tools that are designed for grill-cooking.Almost every Fourth of July activity is spent outside, but everyone should try to limit direct sun exposure between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm, when the sun’s rays are at their strongest. When outside, be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen and reapply it often and stay covered as much as possible, including your feet and hands. You should also drink plenty of water to say hydrated. Wear sunglasses that have 100-percent UV protection, and try to avoid being barefoot on the beach. When it gets very hot, even the sand can burn your feet.It is easy to enjoy the Fourth of July holiday while also following these steps to keep you and your loved ones safe! Castle Impact Windows & Folding Shutter Corporation offers a complete line of aluminum and vinyl windows and doors, available in white, bronze and wood finish, utilizing the most advanced engineering systems available.  Since 1969, our commitment to excellence in design, materials and construction is unparalleled in the industry.
