Florida has been in the midst of a very lucky streak. On Monday, October 24, 2005, Hurricane Wilma hit the Florida Keys and moved up in to Broward county causing death and destruction. For almost 11 years, no hurricane has touched Florida. This morning at 1:30 am, Hurricane Hermine made landfall between Cedar Key and Apalachicola with 80 miles per hour winds and a storm surge that flooded Cedar Key and knocked out power all the way up to Tallahassee. The downgraded storm is making its way to south Georgia at the moment.
While we are certainly concerned about the well being of our fellow Floridians in the Big Bend area, we should take advantage of this near miss to south Florida, to double check our emergency supplies and to make sure our hurricane protection is complete and in good working order. If you have any questions about your hurricane protection system, please contact us. Our project managers are experienced in all aspects of the requirements of the Florida Building Code (FBC) the products that meet those requirements. Our estimates and evaluations are available at no cost to you.
